The gift of breath

Take a deep breath. Feels good!

I invite you to give that — the gift of breath — as a Christmas gift … to a sick child in Belarus.

Children at the boarding school in Uzda, south of Minsk, are living with compromised immune systems.

It’s a severe problem especially in the southern parts of Belarus, closer to Chernobyl.

When Kristina visited these kids back in January, it was clear the workers urgently needed new medical equipment.

She called it “ancient.” (You can see her original photo report here.)

Frankly, we just haven’t had the money.

But I’m hoping, before this year comes to a close, that we can meet at least their most serious needs:

  1. $296 for a multi-purpose electronic device to treat children with breathing difficulties, cardio and gastrointestinal problems, and other issues.

  2. $730 for a pair of ultrasonic nebulizers — the old one is almost 25 years old, but they really need two to care for so many children.

  3. $1250 for an ultrasound unit (the current one, 27 years old, breaks down all the time, and can hardly be repaired anymore).

Which means the total challenge is $2276.

  1. If 50 of us would go in together and give a Christmas gift of $45.52 each, we could get there!

  2. Maybe you could give $91.04, to make up someone who simply can’t give right now.

Whatever you can do today, I’ll be grateful. The workers caring for the children at Uzda will thank God for you!

I do urge you to respond ASAP, though, because I leave for Belarus on the 10th of December.

I really want to bring good news to our “Response of the Heart” team there.

Thank you for considering this need, this opportunity to offer life and hope, in the midst of your busy Christmas preparations.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Much love,

Doug Brendel
