A small “Response of the Heart” team of Belarusian workers devote themselves to bringing tons of donated food and goods into Belarus, sharing this aid face-to-face with people in need from all walks of life.

There are still struggles. But there is Hope!

New Thing is a 501c3 non-profit organization established by Doug and Kristina Brendel in 2002 to help people in need in the Republic of Belarus, in the former USSR.

The passion of New Thing began in 1992 when Kristina Brendel visited Belarus, in the former Soviet Union, as a volunteer photographer.

She was documenting the West’s response to the medical needs of children in the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Kristina fell in love with the people there and kept going back!

Eventually, Kristina and her husband Doug established New Thing to help all kinds of children and adults in need in Belarus.

What we do

IMG_9601_800.jpg

A team of Belarusian workers devote themselves to bringing tons of donated food and goods into Belarus, sharing this aid face-to-face with people in need from all walks of life:

  • Orphans and foster families

  • Abused and abandoned children

  • Children and adults with disabilities

  • The homeless and poor

  • Hospital patients and sick kids in other institutions

  • And the list goes on!

This work is all-volunteer in the U.S., so every penny you donate goes into Belarus. Any contribution you make to New Thing is eligible for U.S. income-tax deduction to the full extent of the law.

You can visit the former USSR without ever leaving home! To receive photo reports and updates on the work in Belarus, simply provide your name & email address here. We’ll be happy to hear from you! Thank you!

We’d be happy to have your help. To donate, visit our donation page here. Thanks again!
