Greetings!
Once in a while, you do a good thing, and long afterward, you discover just how good it really was.
When you help a young orphan, and then find them thriving in medical school, that’s an awesome moment.
Well, that happened.
Every year we have the joy of providing “Life Starter Kits” for orphans graduating from high school in Kobryn, Belarus.
They’ve lived most or all of their lives in the Children’s Village there, but they “age out” of the program when they turn 18, or finish high school.
Our Life Starter Kits include a pillow, bed linens, pots and pans, an iron, and a tea kettle.
On my most recent visit to Belarus, I invited Children’s Village graduates living in Minsk to a get-together in our “Response of the Heart” offices.
Only five could attend — because they’re all so busy with college!
Four of the five are in medical school.
The fifth is studying international relations; he’s preparing to be a diplomat.
One of the students was especially grateful for the iron.
“Everyone on my floor comes to me to borrow my iron. I’m the only one with an iron — me, an orphan!”
Every day, these young people are living in the light of your love.
I am grateful for every gift of support for New Thing’s work of compassion in the former Soviet Union ... especially these days, when things are tight for so many folks.
Thanks for journeying with us!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
