About Timmy

A 90-second fairy tale
One day in Belarus, a baby boy was named Timofey — we would call him Timmy.
He was born with serious spinal cord problems and curvature of the spine.
Timmy’s birthparents were so hopelessly addicted to alcohol that they couldn’t care for their 5 children.
He went into an orphanage. The workers there assumed he would never walk.
Timmy was adopted by a kindly woman (whose one daughter was grown and training to be a doctor).
Timmy’s new mom devoted herself to his care, accessing every medical device and strategy available.
She taught him to walk.
Then came Covid, and Timmy’s new mom died.
He was brought to the Children’s Village orphanage in Kobryn.
Here’s what his new house-mom Olga discovered:
This child is super-smart, and mature beyond his years. A delight.
Plus, surgery soon corrected his spinal curvature.
But Timmy has limited sensation below the waist, so his body never prompts him to use the bathroom.
He lives in a world of disposable diapers, waterproof bedding, a special orthopedic mattress.
He also needs a constant stream of medications and special vitamin combinations.
School isn’t feasible for him; so he’s homeschooled at the Children’s Village.
Now 12 years old, Timmy is — amazingly — learning to skate.
He’s also an artist — he nailed 2nd place among all the town’s schoolchildren!
Everywhere he goes, he has to carry a “duty case,” packed with spare diapers and other gear.
But he’s doing his best to fit in with all the other kids.
As a growing boy, Timmy has new needs year by year:
Special shoes, more diapers, he’s due for a new mattress, he needs developmental aids for his schooling, the list goes on.
These unique Timmy-only necessities take as much as $1,500 a year.
Which for his house-mom Olga is a fortune.
But each week it really comes down to just $28.75 ... for a whole month, it’s only $125.
I wonder if our New Thing family could meet Timmy’s special needs for the coming year.
If you’d like to help, maybe you could give $57.50 to cover 2 full weeks. Or $86.25 to cover 3.
But truly, anything you give today will be a real help.
Thanks for considering it.
And even if you can’t give today, thanks for journeying with New Thing!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
